From Russia with esteem

SU-HSE and GMU cooperation: teaching across the ocean

The 15-th anniversary of the HSE collaboration with Paris I University (Université Paris I Panthéon-Sorbonne), the Paris X University (Universite Paris X Nanterre), and the Sciences Po University (Fondation Nationale des Sciences Politiques Institut d'Etudes Politiques de Paris) was celebrated in Paris. Barcelona Path to Ideas and Projects
In autumn the Sociology Association’s First International Forum was held in Barcelona. Usually the Association holds a congress every four years, but doesn’t usually hold a forum. The most recent Congress was held in Durban (South Africa) in 2006. The next is planned for Gothenburg (Switzerland) in July 2010. This forum however, dealt with a new topic. It was focused on the concept of Public Sociology.
Innovative Prospects for Russia - EU cooperation
The second day of the Russia - Europe Conference on “Innovative Policy for Economic Growth: Goals and Tools” , held at the SU-HSE focused on Russian and European Union innovative policy research results.

On October 28th, as part of the “Urgent research and design in education” workshop, there was a discussion of the PIRLS international comparative research results from 2006 on the reading skills of primary school pupils, where Russia occupied the top position among the 40 participating countries.
Howard Davis lecture "Credit Crunch and Its Consequences"
On November 17 Howard Davis, the LSE director, presented a lecture "Credit Crunch and Its Consequences" at the SU—HSE. Mr. Davis depicted the global financial crush as a drama consisting of five parts: subprime, liquidity, unravelling,meltdown and pumping. At the end of his lecture Mr. Davis offered several ways to overcome the crisis.
