Media Management in an Era of Change

Why does Metro newspaper have 20 million daily readers? How does the BBC master new technologies and how do they influence the company’s management? We publish the answers given by Swedish professors to these questions at a seminar which took place on September 30th at the HSE. We’re also publishing a video of the presentations given by Nils Enlund on ‘The Role of Technology Factors in Media Systems Development’and Christopher Rosenqwist on ‘Changes in Business Technologies through the example of Metro Newspaper’.

The Planet in the 21st Century: We’ll have to Negotiate

On September 24th a roundtable discussion on ‘Geopolitical Consequences of the Financial Crisis. A New World Financial Order?’ took place at the HSE. It was organized by the ‘Liberalnaya Missiya'(‘Liberal Mission') Foundation and during the event Deepak Lal, Yegor Gaidar, Vladimir Mau and Evgeniy Yasin discussed what’s going on in the world.

London G20 Summit Compliance Report

The International Organizations Research Institute of the Higher School of Economics in cooperation with the National Training Foundation have prepared the London G20 Summit Compliance Report . The report presents the G20 member-states’and the European Union (EU) compliance performance with the commitments made within the framework of the G20 summit in London on 2 April 2009.

HSE and Stanford Students are Similar in Many Ways

Between September 10th and 16th,‘Stanford Week’organized by the Faculty of World Economy and International Affairs took place at the HSE. Leading Stanford professors conducted short courses of lectures and master classes for students. Below is a selection of their comments about the event .

Students in World Politics

Mark Manuilov, a second-year student of the HSE Faculty of Management master’s course, told us about a new student initiative –a Russian-American forum involving the HSE, several other Moscow universities and Stanford University. Mark is one of the students who organized this project.

‘The Most Challenging Tasks are Achievable’

On September 10th a graduation ceremony of the joint HSE and London School of Economics programmes of the HSE International College of Economics and Finance took place at the British Embassy in Moscow. Diplomas were given not only to those completing the undergraduate programme, but also to the first graduates of the Master’s programme in Financial Economics.

Stanford Week at the HSE

Between September 10th and 16th the Stanford Week organized by the Faculty of World Economy and International Affairs will be held at the HSE.

Finding a Partner University is Like Making a New Friend

On August 27th and 28th the selection process for students of a joint master’s programme at the European School of Management (ESCP Europe) and the HSE Faculty of Management took place at the HSE. Henry Jolles, Director of International Development, ESCP Europe, shared his impressions on the selection and the collaboration between the two universities.

The HSE has joined the World Alliance for Citizen Participation (CIVICUS), an influential independent organization which studies civil society. Irina Mersiyanova, Director of the HSE Centre for Civil Society and Non-Profit Sector Research (GRANS Centre), told us some more about this event.
