After graduating two years ago from HSE’s Master’s programme in Political Analysis and Public Policy, Svetlana Kosmakova took a job with the International Committee of the Red Cross as a Migration Program Officer. Innate Stress: Researchers Find Link Between Genes and Subjective Well-Being

In the recently published article ‘Association of MAOA-uVNTR Polymorphism with Subjective Well-Being in Men,’ a team of researchers was able to statistically monitor the impact of the monoamine oxidase A gene (MAOA) on the subjective evaluation of well-being among men. This work became the latest step towards an understanding of how genes can affect social phenomena.

‘Joint Projects Between Universities and Businesses Are Very Important’

The Russian Summer School, Masterchain, was held at the Higher School of Economics. It provided students with experience in working with this platform beyond the sphere of banking. The students collaborated on innovative projects for solving real business problems in the field of FinTech.

Explaining how robots work by means of a video game; teaching children to count by means of a smartphone; and teaching a mechanical prosthesis to ‘think’ by means of processing brain signals – these tasks are very different in technical terms. But all three have been solved by HSE students as part of their engineering projects and have helped to improve lives.

Prep Year Graduates Ready to Make a Start

On July 12, HSE officially congratulated the graduates of the 2018 Preparatory Year programme. The 10-month intensive course, which was introduced at HSE in 2015, is designed for international students with little or no knowledge of Russian who wish to undertake Russian-taught full-degree programmes. The curriculum focuses on basic language skills (reading, listening, speaking, and writing) and students are able to study in their chosen academic field (humanities, economics, or engineering). This year, young graduates from 40 different countries attended the ceremony, where they were congratulated by their teachers, friends and families.

HSE Joins ARWU Top-100 in Two Subject Areas

The Higher School of Economics (HSE) has entered the Top-100 in Sociology and Mathematics of the Shanghai Ranking. It is also now the leader on this ranking among Russian universities in Economics, Political Science and Management.

HSE to Participate in Moscow Urban Forum

The Moscow Urban Forum will take place from July 17 to 22 at Zaryadye Park. This year’s topic is ‘Megacity of the Future: New Space for Living’. HSE representatives will participate in the forum’s expert discussions.

HSE’s Master's Programmes in Business and Management Enter Eduniversal Best Masters Ranking

The following Master’s programmes offered at HSE’s Faculty of Business and Management have entered the Eduniversal Best Masters Ranking in 2017-18 in the Eastern European region: ‘Project Management: Project Analysis, Investments, and Implementation Technologies’, ‘Marketing Communications and Advertising in the Contemporary Business’, ‘Business Strategies: Management and Consulting' and ‘Human Resource Management’. For the first time, the world-wide ranking included the master's programme ‘Experience Economy: Hospitality Management and Tourism’. The global ranking also includes the programmes ‘Big Data Systems’ and ‘E-Business’.
